Banku Deya Chachua Unplugged: Dogri Folk Song by Vikram Khajuria

amBal's this video-blog goes 'musical'!

We present one of the highly popular folk songs from our rich Dogri & Pahari Culture! Sung by Vikram Khajuria, an upcoming bright young talent from Udhampur, based in Bombay as Singer & Composer.

Banku Deya Chacheya, like most of the folk songs, is from a woman's perspective. She is urging upon her lover or husband to take her along, to wherever he is headed for 'work'. She informs him that in his absence she has to face the wrath of her in-laws; and the daily back breaking grind of house hold work. 'Life is worth living when I'm with you; not without you;

The title of song is very insightful and deserves a special explanation. Banku here apparently is a kid in the house; since tradition didn't allow women in those days to call their husbands by name; so they had these 'Citations'... 'Anjeee'; 'Mahan Sunaa r dey'; 'Rano de papa'; & in this case... 'Banku Deya Chachuya'! As a matter of fact it continues till day!

Hope you enjoyed Banku Deya Chachuya! The team @ amBal is eager to scroll down your comments & feedback! :)
